New York is famous for many things, including bed bugs (bedwantsen in Dutch). For the weekend section of Het Parool I wrote this story on how to prevent ending up at the doctors office with itchy legs. Click on this post to read the story.
For the Dutch financial newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad's design special, photographer Cynthia van Elk (www.cynthiavanelk.com) and I visited Dutch families that live in New York in beautiful apartments. It was like walking into little museums every time. Click on this post to read the story and see the pictures. New York is a truly special city. But not a place where most people go to calm down or relax. For Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant I visited five places within 90 minutes reach of the city that are completely different and unknown. This was one of the assignments that really gave me the feeling that I have the coolest job in the world. Click on this post to read the story. Dutch people like to cycle. Even when they are abroad. I took a bicycle ride with tourguide Marc Seidenstein through The Bronx for Dutch daily newspaper Trouw. Marc knows a lot about the Dutch heritage in this northern part of New York. Helmets are mandatory. It's election time in New York. Tomorrow we will choose a new mayor. Here is my report in the Flemish newspaper De Standaard on what current mayor Michael Bloomberg did (not) accomplish in his twelve years as New York's mayor. I met artist James Gulliver Hancock in Washington Square Park in New York. He is devoted to drawing all the 950.000 buildings in the city of New York (indeed, good luck to him). This is what he drew while talking to me. |
